Schade war es für unsere Leute, dass die neue Montur gerade erst den Tag vor dem Abmarsch ausgegeben wurde; denn die alte konnte man doch nicht mitnehmen und zum vorteilhaften Anbringen war keine Zeit mehr. Man musste sie also an die Juden verkaufen, wie man nur konnte.

Als unsre Leute wieder gekleidet und mit ihrem Zubehör hinlänglich versehen waren, so schien es, dass sie wieder neuen Mut bekommen hatten. "Nun sind wir gekleidet", hieß es, jetzt können wir die Franzosen nur wieder angreifen." 

Aber die Klügeren unter uns meinten, dass die neuen Röcke auch wieder alt werden würden und dass man die Gewehre wohl abermals von sich werfen könnte. Das Ende eben des Jahres 1793 hat diese traurige Weissagung wahr gemacht.
